Upcoming: Habitat For Humanity's Pamaskong Handog

11/30/2015 6:57:27 PM

At the season of giving, a lot of organizations were doing charity works as part of the spirits of thanksgiving, which should be really exhibiting by each and every single human being who has that kind of heart and mind. And especially at times where our country has been plagued by calamities that threatened our properties and lives, giving and building hope should never diminish to bring the faith in humanity back in our community.

With that being said, attached hereby is the press release about Habitat for Humanity's Pamaskong Handog. What is the project all about? Who made it possible? Read:

Build Hope this Christmas with Habitat’s
“Pamaskong Handog”

Manila (November 25th, 2015) – This Christmas, thousands of families will be celebrating in evacuation sites and temporary shelters because of recent calamities that struck the country. Amidst the busyness of the holiday season, Habitat for Humanity Philippines (Habitat) is committed to building their homes and bringing hope in disaster affected communities.

Habitat’s annual Christmas program “Pamaskong Handog” (Christmas offering) inspires the public to give back to our fellow Filipinos in need during this season of giving. Companies and organizations can set aside some funds from their Christmas party budget, or gather voluntary contribution among members which will help ongoing rehabilitation efforts in various areas nationwide. In appreciation of their generosity, Habitat will match every P1000 donation with a Noche Buena pack to be shared with its assisted family under the donor’s name.

“This season is the best opportunity to show that a little help goes a long way for a family who would like Christmas a bit more special.” Charlie Ayco, CEO and Managing Director of Habitat explains.

More than just giving Noche Buena packs, Pamaskong Handog is really about rekindling hope among numerous families’ who slowly rebuild and improve their lives when they move to their new home.

“Like Jesus Christ who was born in a humble shelter, he was able to inspire hope to a vast majority of people. Together with our donors, would also like to lead by example and demonstrate the love of Christ through this program”, Ayco adds.

For more information on how to partner, kindly contact our Mass Marketing Unit at 846-2177 or email donorservices@habitat.org.ph. You may also visit www. www.give2habitat.org/philippines/pamaskonghandog and learn more about the on-going program.

Just My Opinion: WWE Survivor Series 2015

11/30/2015 6:20:35 PM

Screengrab from YouTube
This year’s Survivor Series, according to many, was so lame. Yeah, like the way I wrote my first statement there.

But kidding aside, why a lot of people were disappointed in the product after watching the pay-per-view event last two Sundays ago? I mean, what went wrong aside from the book booking and feud build-up?

We got a traditional survivor series tag-team elimination match in the kickoff show. I guess some stories were forced to fold as the WWE World Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins was put out by an injury; prompting the WWE to hold a tournament in search for a new title-holder (in short, his replacement).

And in the process, a return of the elder Rhosed named Goldust became a hot talk among smarks. So, is the rivalry between him and Star Dust resumes? We hope so.

I get it: some people are complaining about Roman Reigns not being able to sell an injury despite several shoulder attacks from his previous opponents in the WWE title tournament. I guess he was mold in a form of almost a restless juggernaut. But the way he executes himself in pain wasn’t really shown well. Why did I say so? He’s been somewhat inconsistent on exhibiting them.

Still, the first match was the best one of the evening.

Verdict: 8.5

Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens got entangled in a brawl that should have been in the finals of this tourney. Unfortunately, we all get the predictable result. However, I can sense Ambrose-Owens feud will be a big one in the next PPVs to come.

Verdict: 8.2

The traditional survivor series match appeared like it was inserted for the event’s namesake. And here’s another thing: of all the buildup, it looked like everything was made due to the previous bouts on SmackDown where after Kalisto defeated Ryback, the Lucha Dragons became allies with The Big Guy. On the other end, Sheamus and King Barrett were just dancing with The New Day only to have few seconds of mental-shovedown affair afterwards.

For a second, I thought Sheamus will turn face should he clash with the current tag team champions soon. And his loss here made him a strong-underrated character underneath a mediocre-superficial outlook. So don’t fret when he had done something shocking later on.

Verdict: 7.3

Charlotte exhibited her very physical match so far in her WWE career with Paige. However, I think of two botches: either their chemistry didn’t convince me well or it’s just almost 15,000 members of the WWE universe inside Philips arena were boring as fuck.

Verdict: 6.9

Tyler Breeze and Dolph Ziggler battled for a good short while (in sexual terminologies, that’s how you call a “quickie”) but this one’s another buster. I get it; they resumed their rivalry after the WWE world heavyweight championship tournament. But other than that? NAAAAH. Trousers aside, Breeze got a win he badly needed on his PPV debut. His gimmick still suck for me.

Verdict: 3.9

I still think the Brothers of Destruction should’ve hook Goldust and Sting; and instead of having an at least 8-man survivor series match, it ended on a 2-on-2 scuffle. Screw the fuck out of you, WWE creative people. Forget the fact he had a grandeur entrance (much special than the two WrestleMania cameos). I kinda wonder if Erick Rowan sent himself out of arena; is it because he have something to burst out of his stomach, or perhaps an implosion of the cults soon?

But hey, the promo video was awesome as fuck!

Verdict: 7.7

Still, you can’t discount the implosion of the Spanish announce table as the Holy Shit of the moment. Perhaps, that’s how you send a badass giant named Braun Strowman “good night.” And for good 10-minute match long between these four? Well, it’s considerable with Taker already been close to 50s.

Roman Reigns and Deam Ambrose squared off in a final match that seemed very short and predictable. Though it appeared they could really give it all, physically-speaking. At the end of what should have been longer match, Reigns was the winner and champion while Dean still lauds him as his brother.

Verdict: 6.0

However, a spear on Triple H defies his short title reign when a “brogue kick outta nowhere” happened. Too much for a 5:15 reign and another 34 second square-off.

Verdict: 6.0

The ending seemed not in our favor at all. But this is how a juggernaut like Roman Reigns should do to rebuild himself even more. Forget the fact he has lost a numerous championship opportunities dating back to Battleground last year. He has to be more credible to earn people’s trust (take Daniel Bryan for example).

Overall verdict: 7.3

The Scene Around: MAD RUSH

11/30/2015 4:58:25 PM

Friday the 27th may be a helluva-buzzy evening due to payday, heavy traffic and a then-long weekend coming. But somewhere at the Bonifacio Global City, it was a night of adventure for the masculine race as Sky LIFE Men Zone presented MAD RUSH: THE ULTIMATE PARTY TRIP.

The event was held at four events inside BGC. First stop was at the Tipple & Slaw as participants gather around before hitting the first stop—Garage 88. Perfect spot for a dinner as the Burger Challenge was set in the venue where each team consumed a 12-inch burger within the given time limit.

Next stop was Cable Car for the Beer Pong tournament were four teams slugged it out by playing the game itself and emerge as the winners of the challenge.

Then, the guys moved out to Skippy’s Bar and Grill where a challenge was awaiting for everyone: to be the rockstar of the night via the Rockeoke Challenge.

Then the concluding part was held back at Tipple & Slaw where a series of games also await the people whom were at the venue. Yam Concepcion also made her presence at the stage along with hosts Candy Gamos and Lambert Cruz.

At the end, Team 1 emerged victorious as they dominated three of the four challenges; bagging the top and lots of prizes in the process including a bucket of Smirnoff Mules for each member.

Say, on a personal note, yours truly was honored to still make it on the event despite the long grueling traffic. Though did not won anything at all (member of Group 2, by the way), the experience was already considered a prize for me as MAD RUSH was a heck-of-an-awesome event intended for party-goers. Besides, those bottles of beer were enough for me to doze off stress at least. LOL!

And at least I also managed to nail six points in a beer pong contest. (laughs)

Kudos to Sky Cable as well as to its co-presentor LiverMarin as well as to major sponsors, Rogin-E, SMIRNOFF MULE,Diatabs.

MAD RUSH was one of the events made in celebration of Sky Cable’s 25th anniversary. With over 800,000 subscribers since their inception, the country’s leading cable provider also provides a multiscreen online video network called Sky On Demand.

The Scene Around: Blogapalooza 2015

11/19/2015 6:06:26 PM

Things have changed. When in Manila moved the venue though the date has remained at least intact compared to their last edition.

But this time, they decided to have a multi-themed peg, and it’s then called Blogapalooza Seasons. Meaning, they have divided the venue and stalls into four different seasons.

They also made a step on the awareness level for the blogosphere by having the theme (and hashtag) “Responsible Media” on the side.

Okay, a few takeaways for this one. Since they switched locations and moved near MOA; plus the fact that they set it on a Sunday and the size of the venue may a bit lesser spacious than the previous, it’s quite a risky step. But I guess that risk still paid off as everyone who signed up for the event still made its way and was still enjoying all the happenings then.

And who am I not to, especially when I bumped again with Urbandub and Ebe Dancel? Haha. Like seriously, JB Music booth made my day right there; as well as for the Sosro Fruit Tea for the awesome illustration. At least, I found a cool alternative for drinks.

Also, the cast were reunited! Hey, I mean the closest ones in my blogger circle of friends.

Alright, till the next Blogapalooza.

The Scene Around: KINK Mixtape Launch

10/3/2015 4:01:56 PM
Sometimes all we want in life is not just a nighttime to spend nor even a partner to be with us for the rest of our lives (that’s why the word “forever” is the root of argument in the eyes of the cult I’d like to call love); there are instances where all we want is some music which will not just touch our heart, mind, and soul; but also, will ignite a spark for something sensual.

Not really some kind of sexual aspect or something, but intimacy is rather a fitting term (sorry Micah Romey, I digressed for using ‘baby-making’ right there).

Recently, Vandals on the Wall in cooperation with Gabi Na Naman Productions created another set of tracks suitable for your lingering needs at the wee hours where you and your partner can deal with—of course, aside from the “our” deed or so-called sexy time.

KINK Mixtape is a 20-tracked album comprised of various anthems from different names in the Philippine independent music scene, from Sud to ASCH; to MilesExperience and even Farewell Fair Weather.

And just over the last Friday night of September, amidst the heavy rainfall which almost reminded you of what happened six years ago, the curators slated an event at Route 196 in Katipunan, Quezon City for its formal launch, where the first 75 people will have a physical copy of the mixtape—and that includes yours truly.

Along the way, sets of performances came along, from electronic slow jam-makers to the bands who delivered emotions, angsts, and the drive throughout the evening.

Another great event made by Vandals on the Wall. Keep supporting this music portal, and all the bands who shared the stage as well!

Flick Review: Mga Rebeldeng May Kaso

11/19/2015 5:48:25 PM

It’s been a while since the last time I watched a movie. And just a bit long while, I managed to take a peek on one of the entries for Cinema One Originals called Mga Rebeldeng May Kaso.

Talk about the age of rebellion during the 80s where most Filipinos were revolting against the society: first, against the regime of the-President Ferdinand Marcos; and the next thing, about the independent or underground scene in the country. So it’s not just the typical people you have seen in the decade, but the then-youngsters who dared to be different among the rest; just like the “punk” kids of the 90s and 2000s.

The film lasted for about 75 minutes. It’s kinda impressive to notice director Raymond Red’s style actually used one of the popular film materials in making this one; quite different among the modern style where one would go the ‘point-and-shoot’ way.

Perhaps experiences coming from the elders Red and actor Epy Quizon at least helped the rest of the case in doing their role portrayals. Also, since reminiscing-the-90s is already “so mainstream,” it’s about time we should take a look a little bit backward to the decade where Philippine independent cinema was barely on its baby-stage.

Talk about paying homage on how it was done. And to say the least, the alternative culture already exists since then; it just so happened that numbers may have been changing but the way of life still remains the same. Unless your environment thinks punk is still a taboo.

By the way, I’m giving my shoutout to 8 Moons of Jupiter. Thanks to Bren Pasamba for the tickets and Imee Malabonga for inviting me. I swear: the long trip from Quezon City to Bicutan and to Resorts World was totally worth it.

Clutch!

11/22/2015 9:35:54 PM

Say, it’s been a very long while since the last time I watched a basketball game LIVE. And as far as the local collegiate basketball is concern, the habit was almost nowhere to be found. Can you blame a busy guy? Can you blame me for being not affiliated with any of the NCAA or UAAP schools? While in fact, I’m just a hoops junkie. Yes, as generally plain and simple as that.

It’s no surprise though that for the second straight year, the UAAP championship will be housed at another school in Sampaloc, Manila. Defending champs National University were already dethroned by the University of Sto. Tomas; thus, ending a hope for a title-defense. De La Salle University wasn’t able to make it to the semifinal stage; their fourth time in 22 years.

And this… happened.

Mac Belo: Game-winner vs ADMUICYMI: Mac Belo sends FEU back to the finals for the 2nd straight year.
Posted by UAAP - NCAA Memes on Saturday, November 21, 2015

Mac Belo and his end-game heroics against another most-clamored team called the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles.

He did that last year against La Salle, and certainly he had done it again.

Man… that was a thriller; the same way on how Letran ended San Beda’s domination on this past NCAA Season 91 Championship.

With that being said, somebody should set a bonfire on either Espanya or Morayta soon.
